Biography
Olufunlayo ‘Funmi’ Bammeke is Professor of Sociology at the Department of Sociology, University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos Nigeria. She has committed over two decades to her areas of academic and research interests which have centred primarily on gender and development and child/youth studies, especially abuse and deprivations; and secondarily on Sociology of Education and Sociology of the Family. She obtained her Ph.D. and M.Sc. degrees in Sociology from the University of Lagos. She had her undergraduate studies at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) Ile-Ife where she obtained a B.A. (Hons) in English. She also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Lagos. Funmi Bammeke has had the privilege of international trainings which have enhanced her capacity to undertake research in these areas. She has been a laureate of the Gender Institute of the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) Dakar, Senegal and The African Gender Institute, University of Cape Town, South Africa. She also benefitted from the MenEngage Alliance Training Initiative (MATI) on Masculinities, Leadership and Gender Justice in Sub-Saharan Africa organized by the Sonke Gender Justice Network and the University of Cape Town, South Africa.
